Okudari Sugawara Shrine worships Michizane Sugawara, Kuninotokotachinokami, and Amanouzume.
Fall Grand Festival of Okudari Sugawara Shrine has 350 years of tradition, and a lion dance using Korean fan, called ”uchiwa fan” will be presented.
It has been said that this festival was originated when a great famine attacked, people prayed by waving lion’s heads. This festival is designated as an intangible cultural asset designated by Kumamoto Pref.
Approximate ten adults and children use ”uchiwa fan”, and wave a lion with festival music of big drum, small drum, gong, and flute. It is well worth seeing dancing with a brave music.
