An enshrined deity worships 12 sets of remains including Takeiwatatsunomikoto (Aso Daimyojin).

According to the Aso Myth, Takeiwatatsunomikoto who was the imperial grandsire of Emperor Jinmu, came to Aso, dried a crater lake which was used to be a lake, released arrows from the central mountain to the north and south. One of arrows hit a big stone in this region, and he decided to live here as an imperial palace.

The sanctuary was originally built back in Miyayama; however, it has been said that it was restored in the current location 400 years ago.

The festival will be held on July 30th. Several hoses will be invited to the Oko Ceremony.
There are Takao Jingu and Fuzoku Kannondo in precinct of the shrine. This is the unnumbered pilgrimage site of Aso 23 pilgrimages.
The Fuchin Festival will be held in August to calm wind and to pray for huge harvest with the tradition for 300 years.
