The Ganzouzenji is a temple Zensoutoushu, Kiunzan.
It has been said this temple was built in the Kamakura Era, and has been a family temple of castellan of Takamori Castle for generations.
It has been said that the name was originated from ”Kiunzan Ganzouzenji” because the load of a feudal clan, Yoshinori Hosokawa, donated a frame of Kiunzan with his own handwriting and a crest of Kuyou and 30 fiefs.
In the precinct, there are graves of Takamori Iyomori Korenao as a castellan of Takamori Castle and his retainers, and the 19th Kannondou of Saigoku Aso 33 Kannon Reijyou.
It has been said that the Kannon in Ganzouzenji has blessings for children and child bearing; thus a baby doll is offered.
There are 800-year-old large fragrant olive trees with its thickness of 2.8 meter, and a stone with a haiku inscribed for haiku poets from Kumamoto Prefecture.
